Kuttikkanam is a hill station in Idukki district located 3,500 feet above sea level. It is located within the jurisdiction of Peerumedu, a hill station 85 kilometers from Kottayam, Kerala. Kuttikanam, surrounded by tea gardens, coffee, and cardamom plantations, provides travelers with a relaxing vista. Kuttikkanam’s lovely surroundings, combined with its misty atmosphere, give travelers with a wonderful essence. This lovely slope remains virgin, unspoiled by commercialization. It offers adventure activities and trekking. It includes a great range of rare species, tea plantations, cardamom plantations, and pine forests, making it a popular tourist destination. Kuttikanam was previously a vacation spot for the Travancore kings. Coffee plantations were established here by Henry Baker, a church, but were later replaced by tea plantations under the reign of Sri Moolam Thirunnal. The need for employment drew in additional individuals from Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The area is surrounded by the splendor of green hills, plantations, and grasslands, which creates an amazing charm that can be treasured forever. One can experience the freshness of nature while walking across breathtaking sceneries.

PINE FORESTThere is an artificial pine forest in Kutikanam which spreads over 100 acres of land. It is habitat for about 30 species of birds .The department of Forests and wildlife classified it as buffer zone. Pine trees will be 15-45 m tall. The thick forest of tall pine trees are worth watching. These add to the beguiling beauty of the entire place.

PEERU HILLSIt is a hill station which is 4 km from Peerumedu and 1 km from Kutikanam. It is named after the Sufi saint Peer Mohammed. The trekkers would love to visit this place. |
PARUNTHUMPARAParunthumpara is a small village, located between Peerumedu and Thekkady which is 6 km from Peerumedu. It is called Parunthumpara or eagle rock because large area around it is like an eagle. The attractions here include Suicide Point and Tagor Head. It gives a sweeping view of Peerumedu which attracts lots of tourists. The tourists can spend their time on these undulating grasslands away from the scurry city life. |
THOTTAPURAIt is the place where the Travancore royal family stored their weapons. It is a perfect place for trekking as well. |
AMMACHI KOTTARAMAmmachi Kottaram was constructed by Travancore Maharaja, Moolam Thirunal, sometime in the 19th-century. Nestled in the cool tea and coffee growing highlands, it was mainly used as a royal retreat for the wife of the Maharaja. Travancore royal titles were passed matrilineally, so brother and sister ruled as the Maharaja and Maharani. The Maharaja’s wife was thus given the title of consort rather than queen. It’s believed that Thirunal constructed Ammachi Kottaram for his wife, although the exact history behind its construction remains murky. |
PANCHALIMEDUIt is about 10 km from Kuttikanam which is 2500 ft. height from sea level. The serene breeze will touch you right at the beginning of the trek. The greenery and the flowers bound the pathway leading to beautiful meadows which gives a divine experience. It is named Panchalimedu since It’s believed that Pandavas, heroes of the epic – Mahabharata stayed here, during their exile. There is small temple dedicated to Bhuvaneshwar There is a small pond “Panchalikulam” which is named after Panchali (wife of Pandavas), where she used to take bath. |
VALANJANGANAM FALLSIt is 5 kms from Peerumedu. The waterfall is about 75 ft. High. It is covered in mist and is worth a visit. This pristine white milky waterfalls is said to be originating from somewhere in the mountains of Kuttikanom.The celestial atmosphere and the misty waterfalls give a euphoric sense of happiness to the tourists. |
GEORGE CSI CHURCHThe church is located on the serene Pallikunnu near Kuttikkanam on the Kottayam-Kattappana route. The region is surrounded by mountains at an elevation of 2500 to 3500 ft above sea level. The Peermede Kuttikkanam Elappara region, which was under the rule of the Changanassery dynasty till 1850, later came under the rule of the Travancore dynasty. Henry Baker was one of the first Europeans to visit the plantation industry in the 1860s. St. George CSI Church at Pallikunnu, built by the British who came to the Peermede Kuttikkanam area with a plantation industry over a century and a half ago, is still writing its old history. The church attracts a large number of foreign and domestic tourists. |
